Ramstein Village and Corpus Christi
I arrived in Germany on Wednesday, though I had trouble
knowing what day it was because I was traveling non-stop for two days that felt
like one. My friend Jeanie picked me up
from the airport and drove me through the villages and flowered fields on our
way to Ramstein. It had been raining and
was soggy, but that made it more dramatic.
The villages were made up of old weathered bricks, brightly colored
facades and window boxes full of geraniums and pansies. We arrived at her home in the village of
Ramstein that she shares with her husband Paul and their four fabulous
children. Jeanie has developed a
wonderful green thumb to keep up with the flowery German yards.
I loved the mossy fence...Jeanie thinks I am nuts |
This morning I decided to wander downtown and explore the
church, brick streets and sights and sounds of a village. The streets were arrayed with branches from
trees, flowers, lilacs and flags in celebration of Corpus Christi. Yea, I know, I thought it was just a name for
town in Texas, but apparently it is a holiday here. I would try to explain the
tradition but Wikipedia does it better: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corpus_Christi_(feast)
Jeanie took me and the dog for a walk through woods to a
lake. I stayed longer to bird and wander
and was delighted by this area and made the decision there and then that
Germany needs me to teach here. Well,
that is all for now. Guten whatever time
of the day it is for you!!
So, enjoy the sights of the Village of Ramstein.
